What you will learn

This guide covers how to build audience segments using the TRIFFT filtering engine, differentiating between Private (internal automation) and Public (user-selected) segments, and how to sync these groups to external marketing tools.

Prerequisites

  • Access: Ensure you have the Admin or Editor role to access the Audience module in the Cockpit.
  • Data points: Confirm that the attributes you wish to filter by (e.g., "Favorite Category," "Total Points," or "Last Purchase Date") are active and populated in member profiles.
  • Integrations: If syncing segments to Klaviyo or Bloomreach, ensure the API connection is "Active" in the Integrations tab.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Navigate to the Segments Module: Log in to the TRIFFT Cockpit and go to Audience > Segments.
  2. Initiate Creation: Click the Create New Segment button.
  3. Define Segment Identity:
    • Enter an Internal Name (e.g., "Dormant_High_Spenders_90D").
    • Choose the Segment Type: Dynamic (members enter/exit based on live data) or Static (a fixed list of specific members).
  4. Configure Filtering Logic: * Add a Filter Group to define your criteria.
    • Use Attribute Filters for demographics (e.g., Gender, Birthday, City).
    • Use Behavioral Filters for loyalty activity (e.g., "Points Balance > 500" or "Has redeemed Reward X").
    • Use Transactional Filters for purchase history (e.g., "Total Spent > 1000 EUR" or "Last Order > 30 days ago").
  5. Set Segment Visibility:
    • Private: Keep it for internal CRM use, targeting News/Deals, or syncing to Klaviyo.
    • Public: Enable this if you want the segment to appear as a "Preference" in the Mobile App or Web Portal for members to self-select.
  6. Apply Boolean Logic: Use AND/OR operators to refine the audience (e.g., Members who live in London AND are in the Gold Tier).
  7. Calculate Audience Size: Click the Update Count button to see an estimate of how many members currently meet these criteria.
  8. Save and Sync: Click Save. If an integration is active, toggle the Sync to Integration switch to ensure this segment is mirrored in your CDP or ESP.

Configuration checklist

  • Filter Accuracy: The logic correctly includes the intended audience without being too broad or restrictive.
  • Dynamic Refresh: Ensure the "Dynamic" toggle is on if you want the group to update automatically as member data changes.
  • Public Localization: If the segment is "Public," ensure the Display Name is translated for all active program languages.
  • Integration Mapping: The segment name matches the naming convention used in your external automation flows (e.g., Klaviyo/Bloomreach).
  • Data Safety: Filters correctly handle "Null" values to avoid excluding members who simply haven't provided a specific attribute yet.
