Digital Wallet Overview
Digital Wallet allows members to save a digital version of their TRIFFT loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The wallet card gives the member quick access to their loyalty identity and a scannable barcode without requiring the TRIFFT Mobile App to be open at the point of sale.
Depending on the project configuration, the card can also display member information such as the member's name, card number, points balance, tier, and loyalty benefits.
Why Use Digital Wallet
| Impact area | Business value |
|---|---|
| Customer experience | Members can open their loyalty card quickly at checkout without searching through the Mobile App. |
| Member identification | A cashier can scan the member's wallet barcode to identify the member and apply the configured loyalty flow. |
| Data quality | Easier member identification can reduce anonymous transactions and improve the completeness of customer data. |
| Operational efficiency | Digital cards can reduce the need to produce and distribute physical plastic loyalty cards. |
| Engagement | Current loyalty information remains available in a familiar native wallet application. |
How Digital Wallet Works
- The project administrator configures a separate Digital Wallet channel for each supported platform:
- Digital Wallet Pass (Apple)
- Digital Wallet Pass (Google)
- The administrator configures the card design, customer-facing labels, barcode type, and card-number behavior.
- The relevant add-to-wallet button is enabled in the TRIFFT Mobile App channel.
- A member opens the TRIFFT Mobile App and adds the loyalty card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
- At checkout, the member opens the wallet card and presents its barcode.
- The POS scans the barcode and uses its value to identify the member in the configured loyalty flow.
- When synchronized member data changes in TRIFFT, supported dynamic information such as the points balance or tier can be updated on the wallet card.
Important
The POS must support the barcode format and member identifier configured for the wallet card. Saving a card to a device does not create or configure the POS integration.
Information Displayed on the Card
The available fields depend on the wallet platform and the TRIFFT channel configuration. A Digital Wallet card can include:
- member name
- loyalty card number or member identifier
- points balance
- tier or loyalty status
- translated field labels
- a scannable barcode
- brand colors and supported image assets
- text, links, and Notification Center content on the back of the card
Apple Wallet and Google Wallet control the final layout of the card. The same information can therefore appear differently on iOS and Android devices.
Front and Back Design
Each Digital Wallet channel contains two configurable screens:
| Screen | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Front design | Configures the primary card appearance, including colors, supported images, member information, and the barcode. |
| Back design | Configures additional content using reorderable text, link, and Notification Center blocks. |
Changes to either screen are saved as a draft and must be published before they become the active design.
Common Use Cases
Quick Member Identification
The member presents the wallet card at checkout and the cashier scans its barcode. The POS uses the scanned value to identify the member before the transaction is completed.
Current Loyalty Information
The wallet card can show synchronized information such as the member's points balance or tier, allowing the member to check key loyalty information without opening the Mobile App.
Relevant Wallet Notifications
Supported wallet functionality can display the card or a notification on the lock screen when it is relevant to the member. Availability and behavior depend on the wallet platform, device settings, and project configuration.
Additional Customer Content
The back of the wallet card can contain supporting text and links. For example, a project can include a short brand description and links to a menu, booking page, terms, or other relevant content.
Digital-First Loyalty Card
The wallet card can supplement or replace a physical loyalty card, reducing the need for members to carry an additional plastic card.
Apple Wallet and Google Wallet
| Area | Apple Wallet | Google Wallet |
|---|---|---|
| TRIFFT channel type | Digital Wallet Pass (Apple) | Digital Wallet Pass (Google) |
| Device ecosystem | Apple devices that support Apple Wallet | Android devices and Google accounts that support Google Wallet |
| Card rendering | Controlled by Apple Wallet | Controlled by Google Wallet |
| Branding | Uses supported colors, text fields, and Apple Wallet image assets | Uses supported colors, text fields, and Google Wallet image assets |
| Barcode | The format must be supported by Apple Wallet and the POS scanner | The format must be supported by Google Wallet and the POS scanner |
Design and Behavior Limitations
- The wallet applications control the card layout, spacing, font, barcode size, and some image cropping.
- Custom fonts are not supported. Each platform uses its system typography.
- The primary card background uses a solid color. Supported images are uploaded to their designated image fields.
- Text should remain concise because long labels or values can be truncated or wrap differently across devices.
- Brand colors must provide sufficient contrast between the background, labels, and values.
- The wallet card is a loyalty pass. It is not a payment card and does not process a purchase.
- Barcode scanning depends on the selected format, the encoded identifier, and the capabilities of the POS scanner.
